Surge protective device

SPD

Definition

A device that diverts transient overvoltage to ground, protecting equipment from lightning and switching surges.

At a remote site, protection belongs on incoming power, on the antenna lead, and on signal circuits leaving the building. Replaceable modules matter, because a device that has absorbed a strike has done its job and needs changing.

Also known as: surge suppressor, TVSS.
