Span

Definition

The difference between the upper and lower range values of an instrument. A transmitter ranged 0 to 25 feet has a span of 25 feet.

A span error shows as a reading that is correct at zero and increasingly wrong toward full scale, which is why checking a loop only at zero hides half the possible errors.
