Retentive memory

Definition

Controller memory that keeps its value through a power cycle, as opposed to memory that clears on startup.

Alternation state, run-hour totals, and batch counts all belong in retentive memory. Leaving pump alternation non-retentive means every power blip resets the station to the same lead pump, and over years that pump takes far more wear.
