Instrumentation

pH

Definition

A measure of how acidic or alkaline a solution is, on a logarithmic scale where 7 is neutral.

A pH electrode is a consumable with a finite life, drifts as it ages, and needs regular buffer calibration. Treating it as a set-and-forget instrument is the usual cause of a chemical feed system nobody trusts.
