Compression

Definition

A historian technique that stores a value only when it changes by more than a configured amount, rather than at every scan.

Set too aggressively, it erases the short excursions that matter most in an investigation. The setting is a data-retention decision, not just a storage one.

Also known as: deadband compression, swinging door.
