Shielded twisted pair

Definition

Instrument cable where the conductors are twisted together and wrapped in a shield, grounded at one end only.

The twist rejects magnetically coupled noise and the shield handles capacitive coupling. Grounding the shield at both ends creates the ground loop it was meant to prevent.
