Water & Wastewater

Septicity

Definition

The anaerobic condition wastewater reaches when held too long, generating hydrogen sulfide that corrodes concrete and metal and creates odor and safety hazards.

A control decision as much as a process one. Setpoints that keep a wet well full for hours to minimize pump starts trade a pump maintenance cost for a corrosion cost that is usually larger.
