Duplex mismatch

Definition

A fault where one end of an Ethernet link runs half duplex and the other full, almost always because one end auto-negotiates against a hard-set partner.

The link comes up and light traffic passes, then it degrades badly under load. Late collisions on a full-duplex port are essentially diagnostic of it.
